Yuut Elitnaurviat, People’s Learning Center
The Yuut Elitnaurviat or People’s Learning Center in Bethel, Alaska, is a residential vocational education campus with the goal of increasing educational and employment opportunities for Alaska Native residents of the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta Region.
The People’s Learning Center provides education that directly prepares students for career paths or assists them in making the transition to a university program, depending on their needs. The program provides guidance, counseling and opportunities in a culturally relevant environment designed to provide support and comfort to each student.
The facilities are being constructed with a combination of federal, state and local grants, including funding from the USDA and the Rasmussen Foundation. The occupied facilities include a Construction Trade Industry Training Building, Training Education and Support Services(TESS) Phase 2 Expansion building and two 22-bed dormitories.
Beginning in 2002, Livingston Slone prepared the initial planning & feasibility study, master-planned the campus, designed all of the facilities and has provided on-going design, fundraising assistance and project management for future facilities.
