UAA Engineering & Industry Building

Opened fall semester 2015, the new Engineering and Industry Building for the UAA College of Engineering is an 81,000 square-foot social and intellectual nexus for the campus.  The design enables collaborative, team-oriented, interactive learning through a combination of instructional space, hands-on laboratories, faculty office and research space, and student-faculty gathering space – all equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

The design of the EIB utilizes a “building-as-teacher” concept.  Building systems and equipment are not only visible, but feature prominently.  Various parts of the facility are outfitted with strain gages and accelerometers to allow students to analyze in real time live loads impacting the structural system.  Technology used throughout the building serves as engineering on display, rather than utilities to be hidden in walls, ceilings, closets and voids.
