Sunshine Community Health Center

Livingston Slone developed a campus master plan and architectural design for the Sunshine Community Health Center in Talkeetna, Alaska . This 13,000 SF primary care clinic includes exam rooms, radiology, pharmacy, administration and dental spaces.

The facility is designed to provide emergency care as well as primary care and access for visiting itinerant healthcare workers. There are facilities for telemedicine as well. In addition, the design includes provisions for future urgent care expansion and for on-site staff housing. The waste treatment system is designed to ensure that it can accommodate several additions without extensive costs.  A larger urgent care function is also planned for the facility.

The Sunshine Community Health Center is located on the Parks Highway, more than 70 miles from the nearest clinic in Wasilla. Clinic staff wanted a facility that blended with the local architectural vernacular and gave a familiar and comfortable sense of place to the local residents. LSI’s design provided natural materials, warm colors and a timber-accented exterior and interior.
